Kansas Legislative Insights Newsletter | May 8, 2020

May 8, 2020

On May 6, 2020, the Legislative Coordinating Council (LCC) explored options for concluding the 2020 Legislature. The LCC approved a one-day session on May 21 to wrap up pending business and sine die adjournment. It seems clear that it will not be the traditional ceremonial sine die adjournment.

Senate President Susan Wagle announced that she asked the Commerce Committee, Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Assessment and Tax Committee to meet prior to May 21 to prepare some COVID-related legislation. The House Republican leadership has not announced its strategy to prepare for May 21. Today, Senate Majority Leader Jim Denning announced that he will not be seeking a third term in the Kansas Senate.
