What Subjects Will Be Addressed?

Risk Management in the Real World

Physician Issues
Hospitals, physicians, and the legal relationships between health-care organizations and physicians are among the most highly regulated.  This session will be devoted to a discussion of the most common legal issues facing hospitals and physician groups.  Stark, fraud and abuse, physician contracting, medical staff, corporate practice of medicine, and reimbursement, among others, will be discussed.

Now What? What You Need to Know When the Feds Come Calling
Health care providers become aware of government investigations in a variety of ways - employee interviews by federal or state investigators, OIG subpoenas, Civil Investigative Demands, Grand Jury Subpoenas, or the dreaded Search Warrant.  Learn how to respond appropriately, but within your rights as a health care provider.

Have you ever said, "That can't possibly be the law!"?  In this session our panel will identify several legal "Gotchas" under Kansas and federal law and will discuss how to avoid them.

New Developments in Employment Law
Change was coming, and like it or not, it's here!  In this session we will provide an overview of the new amendments to the ADA, the new FMLA regulations, the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act  and other recent employment and labor developments affecting the workplace, including a recent Supreme Court decision of note,  along with what is on the horizon from an employment and labor standpoint for your health care facility or practice.

Things You Should Know About Kansas Medical Malpractice Issues
You've received lawsuit papers, now what do you do?  In this session we will cover the life cycle of a lawsuit, responding to subpoenas, expert witnesses, depositions, court appearances, and damages.
