This fall, Foulston Siefkin will be hosting a series of 2 Lunchtime workshops for HR Professionals at our offices in the Waterfront addressing HR issues relating to Immigration. Illegal immigration, national security, and identity theft are very hot issues for our Federal Government, and they are taking notice of employers failing to follow the rules. There is also a strong demand for visas that allow for the employment of highly skilled specialty workers at a time when the government is reducing its quotas for these types of visas. As the "baby-boomers" start to retire, it will become increasingly difficult to find workers to fill those vacated positions. Given these developments, HR Professionals are being asked to craft business immigration strategies to assure their businesses retain or recruit the strategic talent needed to make their business successful. This HR Box Lunch Series focusing on immigration will help the HR Professional learn the important legal issues that ALL employers and immigrants face when dealing with the government and the proper hiring of workers in the United States. Who Should Attend? This seminar is designed to benefit human resource professionals with responsibility in their organization for hiring and documenting employees. What Subjects Will Be Addressed? The first workshop will be held on Tuesday, September 25th and will focus on I-9 Compliance Issues and the New No-Match Regulations. In this session we will discuss the employer I-9 requirements and highlight the issues employers may face with respect to ensuring all of their employers are authorized to work in the United States. We will also discuss the provisions of the newly published final regulation regarding No-Match situations and discuss employer compliance strategies with respect to those regulations. This session is intended to provide a basic background to newer or less experienced HR representatives. The second workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 24th and will focus on VISA’s. The Visa Alphabet Soup session we will provide an overview of the various immigrant and non-immigrant visa categories that may impact employers. We will discuss the process by which employers are able to obtain permanent residence (green card) for their valued foreign employees. Who Will Be Presenting? The workshops will be presented by Don Berner, an experienced immigration attorney. How Much It Costs? The registration fee is $30 per attendee, which includes lunch.
